Friend, let me ask the most important question of your life.. It is a very simple question. Your answer will determine your life for all eternity. The question is: “are you saved?” I will put it another way, “are you born again?” In much simpler way, “have you received the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior?” I am not asking whether you are good or bad whether you go to church or not. I am asking whether you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior. Should death call you today, are you sure you can face God? Does your manner of life haunt you? If you are not bold with your answers, then I will like you to quietly read through this little material and decide immediately.
“Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born again, he can not see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to Him, how can one be born again when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he can not enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again” (John 3:3-7)
The above is a record of a discourse between the Lord Jesus and a Jewish religious teacher called Nicodemus. Nicodemus was an elderly man yet the Lord told him that he needed to be born again. Nicodemus had been born of the flesh of his parents but here the Lord was telling him that he needed to be born of the Spirit of God in his human spirit. This means that you may be a good man or you may be a church goer. You may even be a religious leader or a teacher of the Bible but without being born of God, you are not a son of God. You are only a creature of God.
Many have held the wrong notion that so far they belong to a church and participate in religious things, therefore thinks if they die the have eternal life. Others have also been made to believe that once they die and prayers are offered for them or a mass is held for them, they will go to heaven. Friends, I will like to tell you that this is not according to the Bible.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 5:12 also says, “Therefore, even through one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed on to all men inasmuch as all sinned” Another verse says, “For as one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous” (Romans 5:19)
You and I descended from Adam and Eve, our great, great grandparents. When they sinned against God sin entered into them and hence we inherited the sin in them. Just as you did nothing to become black or white person, even so you did nothing to become a sinner. The word translated as made in Rom. 5:19 can also be translated as constituted. This means that because of their sin we all have become constituted sinners. You therefore need not to commit sin to become a sinner. Somebody once said that, “we are not sinners because we sin, but we sin because we are sinners.” In the same way, a mango tree does not have to bear mangoes to be a mango tree but it bears mangoes because it is a mango tree. Because you are a sinner, you are condemned to die and suffer eternally in the lake of fire. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). To be given wages means you have worked for it. Sin is a work and its wages is death. Heb. 9:27 tell us that it is appointed for man to die once and after death he faces judgement. Matt. 25:41 says “Then He also shall say to those on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.” Friend, I want you to know that you will be judged by the Lord Jesus one day. Acts 10:42 tells us, “And He commanded us to preach to the people, and testify that it is He (Jesus) who was ordained of God to be the judge of the living and the dead”.
If by the above explanation you have realized you are sinner, I can go on to show you a way out of this situation. I will show you the way to be born again, the way to receive the Lord Jesus as your personal savior.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life”. The love of God for you and I was so strong that He could not withhold His only son but He gave Him up to die and bear our sin. Another verse says, “For He had made Him (Jesus, who knew no sin) to be sin for us…that we might be the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:21). Rom. 5:8 also says, “but God commend His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us”
It may sound strange that Jesus died for us but it is true. For He was the only one who had the genuine blood to shed for our sin. The Bible says, “And almost all things shall the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Heb. 9:22)
My friend, “Truly, then, God overlooking the items of ignorance, now He strictly commands all men everywhere to repent.” (Acts 17:30) This repentance is a change of mind. It is an admission that you are a sinner and you ready to turn from your sin unto God. Before reading this, God overlooked your ignorance but now that you have read He overlook no more.
In Acts 16:30,31, the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your household”. Simply believe in Him as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. His resurrection powerfully assures that the believer can claim everlasting life when Jesus is received as savior. “But as many who received Him, to them He gave power to become sons of God, even to them that believes in His name” (John 1:12). For everyone, “whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom. 10:13). Whoever includes you. It is not may be saved but shall be saved. WHAT AN ASSURANCE!! Do not delay any longer. Open your heart to God and say this prayer;
“Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. You died on the cross for me. You shed your blood because of my sin. Thank you for dying for me. I receive you right now as my savior and life. Come into my spirit that I will be born again. I give my life to You. Thank you for hearing my prayers. Thank you for saving me. I love you Jesus. Amen”
Friend, I will like to assure you that by saying this simple prayer, you have been born of God. You have thus become a son of God. The Spirit of God has come to dwell in you. You are eternally saved. You have become a follower of Christ (a Christian). You can now face the future with boldness. It may look very simple but it is real if you did that by faith. You may feel nothing but God is now in you, it is left to you by quickening Him. Simply believe what the Bible says and practice it.
You should be baptized in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, as a public testimony of your salvation. Mark 16:16 says, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Acts 22:16 says, “And now what do you intend? Arise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
Having become a Christian, you need a Bible-believing church to fellowship with.
