Forgetting the past.

Sun, 6th Mar, 2016.

Good morning to you my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. By the grace and mercies of God do I great you all. I believe our lives yesterday was a glorious one unto our Lord. May we continue to live by glorifying the Lord with our lives. Today is again the Lord’s day, please let us all make it a point to fellowship with the people of God.

Today message is about we forgetting the past and pushing forward to achieve what is before us. Please let us read Phil 3:12-13 from the WNT Bible.
“I do not say that I have already won the race or have already reached perfection. But I am pressing on, striving to lay hold of the prize for which also Christ has laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not imagine that I have yet laid hold of it. But this one thing I do-forgetting everything which is past and stretching forward to what lies in front of me”.

These are the words from Paul to the Church in Phillipi. Before Paul became an apostle, he was one of the those persecuting the Church. During that time, he knew very much of the law and he kept them just as his forefathers did. He was a Pharisee; a teacher of the laws of Moses. But there was one thing that Paul had all wrong, believing that what he was doing(persecuting the saints) was for God. But God, who is rich in mercy saved him during one of journey to persecute the Church.

But after Paul got saved, he had a goal in his Christian life. The goal was to receive the crown of righteousness from God. And before he could receive this reward, he had to forget about his past, not boasting of the unrighteous things he did, but rather stretching forward to what lies before him. What lies before every believer is to live righteously and also trust the Lord in doing His will.

The life of Paul is such an encouraging one, teaching us what to do as people who have been saved from the world. May we surrender to the Lord every aspect of our lives, telling him to deal with our past and cause us to focus on what lies before us in this life. God bless us all. Amen.
