Good morning to you God’s people. I believe your night was blessed with a peaceful sleep. Even if yours was not a peaceful man, keep on trusting the Lord and continue to give Him all the praise; for He knows what is good for us and He does it for them. Today we learn something about trusting and obeying the Lord.
Please let us read 1Sam 15:22 and 35 from the ASV Bible.
“And Samuel said, Hath Jehovah as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
“And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Jehovah repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.”
I believe some of us know about this story of Saul. Instead of Saul smiting the people of Amalek as ordered by God, he disobeyed God by sparing the king Agag and the best of their sheep, oxen and lambs. He disobeyed what God asked him to do.
To Saul, he had no harm against the king and the animals; he saved the king because maybe he was a leader like him who deserved not to die and also saved the best of the animals because he thought they would please God as a burnt offering.
This has been our problem; We sometimes do certain things according to our own interest thinking that such interest is same as that of our Lord. We seem to aknowledge what our minds tell us but not what the Spirit of the Lord within our hearts does tell us. Disobeying what the Spirit of the Lord says brings upon our lives a whole lot of troubles, just like Saul who lost the presence of the Lord. Let us obey the Lord whenever He speaks to us so that we may enjoy more of His riches in glory. For obedience is better than sacrifice. May God bless us all. Amen.
