30th November, 2017 (Thursday) – The Good Soil

By: Appiah Alice Adoma

2 Peter 2:3“By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”

The focus of Peter’s writing today is to show the motivating factor as well as modus operandi of false teachers. Covetousness is their driving force, always looking for what to gain. These are people who equate gain with godliness. Their target is people’s pocket, always eager to device ingenious ways to manipulate innocent souls. A basic tool in the hand of false teachers is deceptive words. They have mastered the art of making God’s word say what they want; they love tingling people’s ears. Though Peter assures that their judgment is waiting, we owe ourselves the duty of remaining watchful not to become partakers of their evil way.

Here is the balance: the covetousness of a few should not produce in us a miserly attitude which can effectively block the flow of God’s blessing. The recommendation here is giving with discernment. There are several ministers who are keeping it real with God’s word. They may not be known faces on the back cover of a glossy magazine. Certainly, they will not make the list of the top 10 richest preachers; however, they are reaching out to local communities, and extending the territory of the kingdom of God the best way possible. Locate such by the help of the Spirit and sow into their lives and work. In the Parable of the Sower, four types of soil were identified. Incidentally, only one soil brought increase. The ground where the undiluted word of God is present is akin to the good soil with guarantee of return. Shalom!

29th November, 2017 (Wednesday) – Who is He to You?

By: Mensah Timothy Vincent

Jeremiah 32:27“See, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything so hard that I am unable to do it?”

This verse carries two great ideals. One is, God is the God of all flesh and the second is, nothing is too hard for Him to do. Many have laid aside the first and are running towards the second. But I ask you, who is He to you? Your God or someone you run to for your needs.

In Economics, scale of preference simply means to arrange things in terms of priority. The most important one is placed first before the other important ones follow respectively. Same as we see in the verse above, He spoke of He being God before addressing how impossible things are to Him.

God is indeed the God of all flesh but He desires all men to come to the recognition of this, and accept Him as their ONLY GOD. Who is God to you? You can call Him God but how often have you recognized Him as your God? Do you serve Him in Spirit and in truth? Think about it.

28th November, 2017 (Tuesday) – Living Stones

By: Mensah Timothy Vincent

1 Peter 2:5 – “and ye yourselves, as living stones, are built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” [YLT]

This verse entails a lot but I would focus on the aspect of we being living stones. In the Old Testament, Genesis 2, God created man with the dust of the earth. In Genesis 3, the Devil through a serpent deceived and overcame man. Due to this occasion, the Devil is called “the old serpent”.

God in Genesis 3:14 cursed the serpent that “…and dust you shall eat all the days of your life” and man is also created with dust. Which means, physically, normal serpents would bruise the heel of men (Genesis 3:15) and also feed on normal dust. But spiritually, the old serpent feeding on dust means to feed on men. Feed on our heart and minds to gain our souls.

This is what calls God into transforming His earthly sons into LIVING STONES. Serpents don’t feed on stones. We remember Paul being bitten by a snake but never died. We have this extraordinary life in us as Christians which transforms us from dust to stones, and not just stones but LIVING STONES. The Word of God hardens our nature, hence makes it difficult for the old serpent to feed on us. This is our victory, may we stand in this victory to fulfil this verse; that we would be built up, as spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Amen! More explanation on this verse will be done as the days go by. Grace be with us.

27th November, 2017 (Monday) – Don’t Let Success Ruin You

By: Takyi Benedict Yankyerah

Proverbs 27:21“Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised” [NLT]

God tests us with success. Does that sound strange? You might have an easier time believing that God tests you with stress or suffering. But think about it. You’ve seen success ruin people. The young rock star gets everything she has ever wanted and then crashes and burns. The athlete signs a big contract and then parties away his future. A business grows bigger than anyone expected, and the owner becomes reckless with expansion plans.

We’ve read the stories. I can tell you that more people have been ruined by success than by suffering. Suffering tends to push people toward God. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 27:21, “Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised”. In reality, every compliment is a test. Compliments and criticisms are a bit like chewing gum. You can chew on them awhile, but don’t swallow them. Both of them can really mess you up. It’s so easy to forget God when success comes your way. But if you remember that your success comes from God, you will pass the success test every time. May God continually grant us the understanding concerning how to live our lives in our success. Amen!

26th November, 2017 (Sunday) – The Need For The Saviour

By: Tetteh Patience

Isaiah 56:6For we have all become like one who is unclean [ceremonially, like a leper], and all our righteousness (our best deeds of rightness and justice) is like filthy rags or a polluted garment; we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away [far from God’s favor, hurrying us toward destruction].

Only Jesus can cleanse you

Every measure of sin not dealt with is enough to make you loose the kingdom of God. When sin is part of your life, you need a saviour. Salvation is not the same as doing good deeds. No matter how good you are,  you ultimately need the saviour before you can pass through that gate of heaven into eternity. For all have sinned, all need a Saviour! We cannot save ourselves. God’s standards are so high and ours so low that no effort of ours can rise to merit His standards.

“Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” He is the only one who can take away your sins. He said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” Through Him you have everything in life! This is too good.

All you have to do is to believe Jesus the son of God. He came to die for your sins and was raised from the dead and ascended into Heaven. Confess him as your Lord and personal saviour.

25th November, 2017 (Saturday) – God’s Living Word

By: Appiah Alice Adomah

2 Peter 1:20-21“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

If we are ever going to receive the maximum blessing that God’s Word contains, we must first settle its Divine Authorship, which is the focus of our text today. Until we subscribe to its inerrancy we do not put our trust in it. There are several reasons that can be put forward to prove divine authorship of the Bible; but only a couple of those are permissible here because of space. Firstly, the standard of the Bible is so high that no human being could have put that together. It puts a number of responsibilities on us that our human nature detests. Women are asked to submit to their husbands; citizens to pay taxes and submit to authorities; we are to pray for our enemies and never repay evil with evil. Certainly these are not the type of standards that human beings like to set for themselves.

Apart from the predictive prophecies that have been fulfilled, perhaps the next most important prove of divine authorship of the Bible is lives of men that have been transformed by its precepts. No one has ever read the Bible with open mind, adhered to its teachings and remained the same. It is the Book that has made missionaries of former rapists and drug addicts. Philanderers have been turned to faithful husbands. When we allow the Holy Spirit to drive into us its precepts, we are transformed. Shalom!

24th November, 2017 (Friday) – “The love of God: an obligation to man.”

By: Amankwatia Emmanuella

1 John 4:7&8“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

The verse above clarifies that Christians must love one another in the same matter our God does. Humans may love one another base on feeling, emotion or conditions, probably because that person shown them love in a way and so want to return his love or demand something from the person. The love of man is discriminatory but the love of God is unconditional it seeks nothing in return.

In John 3:16, when God gave his only begotten son as a sacrifice to man, he did not care as to whether man would appreciate this gift or not. He was only concern with our salvation, that we may not perish. Again, while we were yet sinner Christ didn’t care, he gave out his all and died for us (Romans 5:8). This proves the amazing love of God.

As Christians, it is our obligation to always love irrespective of the nature, personality or character of the person. All what God demands from us is to love unconditionally just us he does. If we do not love unconditionally, then we do not know God and that we are not Christians.

23rd November, 2017 (Thursday) – Whoever is Believing

By: Mensah Timothy Vincent

John 3:16“for God did so love the world, that His Son — the only begotten — He gave, that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during.” [YLT]

It’s no wrong to say Christianity is a verb and it’s manifested through words and deed before man. But with God, thoughts of the mind and heart are inclusive. Many have come to the maturity of the idea that, believing in Jesus is done once; the night (day) they gave their lives to Christ. But what do we see in the verse above?

Many translations read “…whoever believes…” but, the YLT version seem to throw more light on the fact that it’s a matter of continuing to believe; “…every one who is believing…”. You may have believed some years ago but are you still believing in Christ? You may say yes, but spiritually, how strong are you compared to the night (day) you believed and gave your life to Christ? If you seem weaker than before then in the cause of time you stopped believing. It’s a matter of daily returning to Christ to surrender totally to Him. This is the Way, this is the Truth and this is what would give you Life. May God bless us with more understanding concerning this.

Grace be with us.

22nd November, 2017 (Wednesday) – FREEDOM

By: Appiah Alice Adomah

Matthew 11:29-30“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.”

The concept of yoke would have been readily understood by the people of Jesus’ day. It was a steering device that was placed on animals to guide the plows or carts they were pulling. So Jesus, in essence, is saying, “Take my steering device upon you.” He is saying, “Let me be in control of your life. Let me guide your life. Let me direct your life.”

You might be thinking, “Here, Jesus says that He will give me rest. But you are saying to put on His yoke and learn. That sounds like work”. I want you to know that it will be as much of a weight to you as wings are to a bird. It will be a joy, because now, instead of wasting your life serving yourself or living for pleasure or success or whatever else one lives for, you will be channeling your energies into following and serving Jesus Christ.

You may give up some things to follow the Lord. But what you give up can’t begin to compare to what He has prepared for those who follow him. Shalom.

21st November, 2017 (Tuesday) – “The Will of God Shall Prosper In His Hands.”

By: Takyi Benedict Yankyerah

Isaiah 53:10…and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. [KJV]

In the Gospel of John Jesus declared that the will of the father is that whoever believes in the Son shall receive eternal life. For lack of more suitable words let it be said, “God really trusts the Lord Jesus Christ”. And it is impossible for God to lie, and so the prosperity of God’s will or pleasure would imply that the whoever has really believed in this Jesus should live in unwavering hope of eternal life.

Hebrews 7:10 says Jesus, in whom we believe, is able to save us totally, or to the uttermost, or to the end, because he continues even now to make intersession for us. Our greatest hope is the hope of eternal life. If God has said His will will prosper in Jesu’s hand, then we who are saved “have”, not “are striving for”, external life. This is the very inspiration the Holy Spirit stirs up in the glorious hymn; Blessed Assurance. We can’t be condemned, we have passed on from death to life never to return no matter what. Indeed, God’s will shall prosper. Shalom
